A few weeks ago we were out at Karsten Creek Golf Club installing Tree Lightning Protection Systems! These systems were installed on obstacle trees or trees that would change the way holes are played if they were to take major damage.
These systems work by providing lightning the easiest path to ground. We install a copper cable up the tree with a solid copper tip. We secure the cable to the tree with brass nails/crimps, brass is used because it is a bad conductor, so it helps protect the tree from the lightnings energy. Then we run that copper cable underground, outside of the trees critical root zone, connect it to grounding rods or plates. These systems are then tested to ensure a good ground connection.
Thank you to Firestorm Tree Specialist’s for having us help with this project!
